Grandparents and Technology

Lockdown due to Covid-19 Pandemic has changed so many aspects of our life. From our daily lifestyle to our complete education system. Many changes made a drastic change in our habitual routine, some were too harsh but some made a good impact in our life. Communication was still alive between all our colleagues, schoolmates, and family members via phone calls and video calls, and meets. We, teenagers, being familiar with technology it was easy for us to adapt to the changes quickly. But during this whole period did you took a moment and tried to sit with your grandparents and made them explore this wonderful medium of communication?
   I did it today. It was almost 5 months my Grandma had not gone out of our colony and visited her friend. Yes, my grandma's best friend, The one friend who was her constant from the days of their youth till now when both are in their 70's..their friendship, their bond has always remained the same and gave us the BFF goals. She was missing her a lot, We too miss our friends, but we have so many platforms to get connected through Whats app chats, Video calls Instagram and the list is too big. These technologies have brought us so close but just because our grandparents cannot adapt to them quickly, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to enjoy its benefits and get to meet their friends and family members virtually. Today, I made a video call to my grandma's friend and they were so happy. The wide smile on my grandmas and her friend's face was so beautiful. Just a video call and a small conversation made them content for the rest of the quarantine days. It was so a big thing for them but so small for us. So I thought why not do it often, it's harder for them to make a call but we are there with them to help them.
These days are tough for them too, even though they won't express. But our small gesture by connecting them to their friends and family members would make them happy. And I bet you would become much more happier.

Let's make our grandparents familiar with technology and make them enjoy its perks.
